Clay Mug or 3 Piece Set - 8th Grade 
The students will use learned clay building skills to create a character mug or a 3 piece set expressing their own unique creativity. Art standard: S1B1 Incorporate a variety of technical skills for personal expression.

The student created a unique choice piece like no other in the class using scored pieces and engraving into the clay showing higher technical skills.

The student made some progress in cleaning up.

The student cleaned up areas by smoothing edges and cleaning off left over pieces. The piece is pleasing but could use more refinement.

The student clean up all areas of his/her piece. Nothing else could be done. Textures and engraved lines are clear, deep, and evident to the eye.

The student created an air bubble which completely destroyed the whole mask to a million pieces.

The student created an air bubble but the piece survived in at least one or more larger pieces.

The student created a piece with no air bubbles but some pieces may have fell off due to poor scoring.

The student created a piece with no air bubbles and all scored pieces stayed on.

The student applied the paints with missed areas being evident. White specks. Shows no thought process of applying paints.
Progressing to Grade level

The student applied the paints with many less areas being obviously missed. White specks still showing. Some thought of how to apply paints but poorly done.
Grade level

The student shows evidence of having a plan for painting the the piece. Lines are defined and cleanly done. Few white specks.
Grade Level with Excellence

The student had a evident plan in painting the piece. Textures and or lines are done with purpose. Overall skill handling is excellent. No white specks.
Finish/Aesthetics

Attempts Grade Level

The student threw the piece together and is unpleasing to view. No evidence of a thought out design.
Progressing to Grade level

The student attempted with some design to create a pleasing art form but failed to bring overall expressive features out in the piece.

The student's piece shows evidence of a thought out design and is pleasing to view.
Grade Level with Excellence

The student's piece shows excellent use of design and is beautiful to behold.
