The following defines what is expected of a quality press release. A press release should be viewed as a pyramid and should be written with most important information first and moving to least important details.

This should include the most important information, typically in one sentence. (Who, what, when, where, why, and how)
Body
Quality
This is where the facts in the lead should be explained. Information should be in order of importance and not chronological order. Paragraphs should be short. Transitions are not important and one sentence paragraphs are okay.
Word Usage
Quality
Use simple language, familiar words, no jargon, and short simple sentences. Make sure to use action verbs and avoid overusage of is and forms of to be. Also avoid adjectives. Identify people with their full names. Personalization can be done by connecting the information to the reader in some way.

1. White 8 1/2 by 11 inch paper 2. Typed, double spaced, one sided 3. Date story is sent and date to be released at the top 4. Name, contact information, school name, address and telephone number at the top of the page 5. Name and home phone of press relations person 6. Copy should begin 1/3 of the way down the page 7. No more than 1-2 pages in length
