Characters	Needs Improvement Student cannot identify the characters by name and cannot give much detail about them.	Fair Student can identify the some characters by name, and can give little or no details about them.	Very Good Student can idenitify most characters by name and can give some detail about them.	Excellent Student can identify all characters by name and can give specific details about them.
Setting	Needs Improvement Student cannot identify the setting.	Fair Student can identify one setting with some details.	Very Good Student can identify multiple settings with some details.	Excellent Student can identify multiple settings with significant detail.
Problem	Needs Improvement Student cannot identify the problem.	Fair Student can identify a minor problem.	Very Good Student can identify more than one minor problem.	Excellent Student can identify the major problem.
Events	Needs Improvement Student cannot identify events in the story.	Fair Student can identify some of the events in random order.	Very Good Student can identify most of the important events in order. These are many of the minor events also, which do not have a direct impact on the resolution.	Excellent Student can identify all of the most important events in sequential order. These are the primary events that lead to the resolution.
Resolution	Needs Improvement Student cannot identify the resolution.	Fair Student can identify an event that did not solve the problem.	Very Good Student can identify a part of the resolution with no specific connection to the problem.	Excellent Student can identify the resolution as it directly relates to the problem.
Theme	Needs Improvement Student cannot identify the theme.	Fair Student can identify a minor theme or lesson learned, but not the main theme.	Very Good Student can identify only one main theme.	Excellent Student can identify the major theme and some underlying themes.
