Rubric for Effective Communication Rubric for Problem solving Learning Goal: Students will develop effective communication skills. 	Beginner Communicator 1 pts	Intermediate Communicator 2 pts	Effective Communicator 3 pts
Observation	Beginner Communicator Student begins to use with senses, but lacks the attention to detail to truly form an effective observation.	Intermediate Communicator Student utilizes some of their senses to evaluate what is going on. Student may be able to identify some of what is going on but cannot identify all the information.	Effective Communicator Student sythesizes information from all their senses to assess what the problem is using statemesnts like; who, what, when, where, why, how, and to what extent.
Alternative solutions	Beginner Communicator Therapist did not help the client generate any alternative solutions.	Intermediate Communicator Therapist did not help client generate enough alternative solutions. (<2)	Effective Communicator Therapist helped the client identify ample solutions (>4).
Selection of a solution	Beginner Communicator Therapist did not help the client choose an appropriate solution.	Intermediate Communicator Therapist helped the client choose a solution, but it was awkward or contrived.	Effective Communicator The therapist helped the client choose a solution that seemed completely appropriate.
Verbal Skills	Beginner Communicator Student spoke too loudly or softly. They were unable to communicate their needs clearly to the listener. They lost control and spoke harshly to others.	Intermediate Communicator Student spoke clearly enough to be understood. They may have to repeat or restate what they said. They maintained composure and improved their speech according to the needs of the listener.	Effective Communicator Student did not speak too fast or too slowly. Student spoke loud enough to be heard clearly. Student spoke clearly enough to be understood the first time. Student's tone was encouraging.
