Design of atom

Poor

Student failed to complete an atom model.
Fair

Atom is not accurate in terms of number of sub-atomic particles. Atom model has many design flaws.
Good

Atom is accurate but lacks some information. Atom model has some design flaws.
Excellent

Atom is accurate and student has included all required information. Atom model is neat and well designed. Choice of materials is well suited for model. Student model design exceeds all required expectations.
Creativity

Poor

Student failed to complete an atom model.
Fair

Project appears hard to follow.
It appears to have too many parts that do not serve any purpose.
Good

Project is well done, but it is not unique.
It has many similar components as other models.
Excellent

Project is unique, and sets itself apart from the others. The project shows creativity that is exciting and fresh. Student creativity exceeds all required expectations.
Color

Poor

Student failed to complete an atom model.
Fair

The student has no color at all in the project.
Good

The student has color in the project but has failed to color-code protons and neutrons correctly.
Excellent

All parts of the project are correct and complete. The project has adequate color, and all parts are color-coded accordingly. Student model exceeds all required expectations..
Labeling

Poor

The student failed to label the protons, neutrons and electrons (in the appropriate level) in the atom model.
Fair

The student made an attempt to label protons, neutrons and electrons in the atom, but labels were not clear.
Good

The student labeled the protons, neutrons and electrons in the atom model, but with some incorrect spelling.
Excellent

All parts of the atom were labeled correctly.
Effort

Poor

Student failed to complete an atom model.
Fair

The project look as if it lacks significant effort or that it was possibly thrown together in a rush. The project still needs quite a bit of work and does not appear complete. Many errors are evident in the work.
Good

The project appears to be mostly complete; although, it could use some minor touch ups.
Excellent

The project clearly shows that much effort was put forth and the project appears complete. Student model exceeds all required expectations.
Notecard

Poor

There was not a notecard to accompany the student model at all.
Fair

The notecard was present with some labeled information, but not all. Notecard was not neatly completed. Parts that were missing may have included:
Name of the element, chemical symbol, atomic number, atomic mass, student name, and
student name and number
Good

The notecard was present and neatly completed with some labeled information, but not all. Parts that were missing may have included:
Name of the element, chemical symbol, atomic number, atomic mass, student name and
number
Excellent

The notecard was present and neatly completed. All required components were included on the notecard: the Name of the element, chemical symbol, atomic number, atomic mass, student name and number
Presentation

Poor

Student could not present his or her atom to the class.
Fair

Student presentation was done, but was confusing or unclear. The student did not demonstrate an understanding of the topic.
Good

Student presented his or her atom to the class, but was missing few key components, such as: atomic number, atomic mass/ weight, element name, element symbol, # of protons, # of neutrons. # electrons on appropriate levels
Excellent

Student presented all components of the project to the class with ease and confidence. Student presentation exceeds all required expectations.
