iRubric: Reflective Poem Rubric

Poem is creative and original. It is evident that the poet put thought into his or her words and uniquely conveyed his or her ideas and emotions. the poet takes the reader on an unexpected journey.

18-20 points

Poem is thoughtful and creative. A couple of phrases or ideas may be revisited, but the overall product is carefully written.

15-17 points

Most of the poem is creative, but appears to be somewhat rushed. This is evident in the poet's redundancy or use of cliches.

11-14 points

Poem appears to be rushed. Work is very repetitive, and ideas require much more time to be developed for desired effect.

8-10 points

The poem meets the requirement of a minimum of 40 lines

18-20 points

The poem is 30 lines or less

15-17 points

The poem is 20 lines or less

11-14 points

The poem is less than 10 lines

* Reflections are interwoven in a thoughtful and purposeful manner and dig deep into the hows and whys certain choices were made in throughout the year regarding writing growth.

*Question prompts are thoughtfully used, digging deep into the creation of personalized message(s).

*An exceptionally clear and detailed message(or set of messages) is/are identified through the reading of the poem. The message is inspiring and motivating.

*Reflections are mostly thoughtful, and begin to dig deep into the hows and whys certain choices were made in throughout the year regarding writing growth.

*Question prompts are thoughtfully used to guide messages pulled from the poem.

*A clear and detailed message(or set of messages) is/are identified through the reading of the poem.

*Reflections are at a surface level. Question prompts are briefly referred to but could require some more interweaving within the poem's structure.

*Writing growth is briefly referred to, but could be elaborated upon in much more depth.

* Message(s) are vague and could require more development and clarity.
