Creating a Musical Instrument 
Objective: Students will research how musical instruments make sounds and the four instrument families (string, woodwinds, brass, and percussion). Students will design and build a musical instrument from recycled materials found at home. Students will be required to play sounds of different pitches on their instruments.

Student can produce high quality sounds on the instrument and can identify the pitch (aigu ou grave) of the sounds produced.
Meets Standard

Student is able to produce simple sounds on the instrument can identify the pitch (aigu ou grave) of the sounds produced.
Approaches Standard

Student is able to produce a basic sound on the instrument. No explanation is given.
Below Standard

Student is unable to produce a sound on the instrument and unable to explain the sounds produced.

Exceeds Standard

Student can accurately state whether the instrument belongs to the string, woodwind, brass, or percussion family and explain why.
Meets Standard

Student can accurately state whether the instrument belongs to the string, woodwind, brass, or percussion family but cannot explain why without prompts from the teacher.

Student can somewhat state whether the instrument belongs to the string, woodwind, brass, or percussion family and can somewhat explain why.

Student cannot determine what instrument family the instrument belongs to even with teacher prompts.

Student presented and played his/her instrument. He/She can clearly explain how the sound is produced and explain the difference between high and low sounds.

Student presented his/her instrument. He/She can explain how the sound is produced and the difference between high and low sounds.

Student presented his/her instrument with some help from the teacher. He/She can somewhat explain the difference between high and low sounds.
