Simple Melody Composition
Create a melody that is 4 measures long using assigned notes, rests, and note range.

Rhythm Jam Rubric
Create a small group performance piece in which each member plays their own 4 measure 4 beat rhythm using Bucket Beat Rhythms or creating new rhythms. Group members must use the following instruments for performance: xylophone, 2 bucket drums. The group must choose any other percussion instruments available besides the above instruments to complete the group performance.

Creating a Musical Instrument
Objective: Students will research how musical instruments make sounds and the four instrument families (string, woodwinds, brass, and percussion). Students will design and build a musical instrument from recycled materials found at home. Students will be required to play sounds of different pitches on their instruments.

Music Composition - Junior High
Create a 16 measure composition in grand staff, with a variety of note values (eighth, quarter, half, whole), melody, simple harmony (I-IV-V7 chords or linear harmony), dynamics/tempo marking/phrasing to indicate mood/style, title and composer. Completion of project includes turning in a clean written copy of the music (may use www.Musescore.com) and presentation of the composition in class.
