Drawing/Painting Rubric Drawing/Painting Rubric The student will create an original piece of artwork from American history. The artwork should be at least 14x17 inches in size. The artwork needs to demonstrate artistic ability. A written explanation in MLA format must be submitted through Google Classroom. It is obvious that the student spent a lot of time on the piece.	Good The artwork is well drawn. The student displays a good level of artistic ability. The piece is somewhat well balanced and thought out.	Fair The artwork is fairly drawn in pencil and appears unfinished. The student displays a fair level of artistic ability. The artwork is not well thought out or balanced.	Poor The artwork is poorly drawn. The student displays a low level of artistic ability. The overall piece is done poorly.
Originality of design	Excellent The artwork is original and unique in design.	Good The artwork shows some originality and uniqueness.	Fair The artwork shows a little originality.	Poor The artwork shows no originality with little effort put into the piece.
Presentation / Craftsmanship	Excellent Piece is complete. Overall design is exceptional and includes various elements and principles of art.	Good Piece is mostly complete. Overall design is good but could use more elements and/or principles of art.	Fair Piece does not seem to be complete. Overall design is not complete or finished and few elements or principles of art are used.	Poor Piece is barely started. Overall design is not complete and no elements or principles of art are used.
Written Explanation	Excellent The written aspect of the project is complete and includes at least two work cited sources. The written aspect contains appropriate in text citations.	Good The written aspect is good. There are not enough in text citations.	Fair The written aspect is incomplete and contains little information about the subject of the artwork. There is little evidence of research nor in text citations.	Poor No written aspect was turned with the artwork. Zero points
