Writing Poetry Poem of the Pearl Students will choose a specific topic to write a poem about. The students will go through the writing process (prewriting, drafting, editing, revising and publishing) to create a poem that at least 3 stanzas and 15 lines. Good The poem contains 3 or more stanzas but is less than 15 lines long OR is 15 or more lines long with less than 3 stanzas.	Excellent The poem is more than 3 stanzas and is more than 15 lines long.
Originality	Poor The poem is not original.	Fair The poem shows some creativity but is very repetitive.	Good The poem is original and creative but is slightly repetitive.	Excellent The poem is extremely creative and interesting to read.
Spelling/Grammar	Poor Many words are misspelled. The poem doesn't contain correct punctuation and/or sentence structure.	Fair A few words are misspelled. The poem cotains a few mistakes in punctuation and/or sentence structure.	Good Most words are spelled correctly. The poem contains almost no mistakes in punctuation and/or sentence structure.
