Focus on keystone species, invasive species, succession and population growth. Use the following inquiry question to help guide your paper. 1. Pick a location – city, ecosystem, state, etc.. 2. Which organisms do you think will survive and flourish? Which will die out? 3. What will their population growth look like? (TIME) 4. What type of succession would you see? Describe the process. Keystone Species and

Judge and defend a position on the keystone species and invasive species in your location. Will it change? Will there be more or less, and what will the lasting impact be? Evaluate how their role would change without humans. Will balance be affected?

Advanced

A detailed evaluation of the keystone species/invasive species and its role. How does it correlate to absence of humans at location? Research was evident.
High

A detailed explanation of the keystone species/invasive species and its role at location demonstrated understanding, and Some research was evident.
Proficient

A few brief sentences describing the keystone species/invasive species. Some research was evident.
Not Yet

No description of the keystone species/invasive species included. Minimal research was evident.
Succession

What type(s) of succession would your location experience? Detail how it would occur. How will succession be altered without human interference?

Advanced

Detailed information was included regarding change and development of the ecosystem. Each step of succession is vividly portrayed. Student incorporated the types of succession appropriately,
High

Detailed information was included regarding change and development of the ecosystem. Several steps of succession are portrayed. Student incorporated the types of succession appropriately,
Proficient

Information on succession is present, with little detail as to how it occurs.
Not Yet

Basic succession is discussed, but does not apply to chosen location.
Populalation Growth

What impact would removal of humans have on plant and animal population Growth?

Advanced

Detailed analysis was included regarding population growth of many species. Inferences as to how they are interrelated is evident.
High

Detailed information was included regarding population growth of many species. Species interaction is limited.
Proficient

Population Growth is described without relationships in a few species.
Not Yet

Little evidence of population growth in prediction.
