Meets Goal Student performed an adequate amount during the investigation, made some observations, collected little data, and tried to theorize about concepts.	Poor Student did little to no work during the investigation/exploration portion, offered no observations, did not collect data, and did not theorize about concepts.
Explanation	Outstanding Student uses data to provide information on soil types, investigation outcome, and assesses the importance of good soil to plants.	Meets Goal Student uses little data to provide information on soil types, investigation outcome, and adequately recalls the importance of good soil to plants.	Poor Student does not use any data to describe soil types and cannot recall the importance of good soil to plants.
Elaboration	Outstanding Student restated all vocabulary and identified several ways to amend poor soil.	Meets Goal Student defined at least half of vocabulary and identified a few ways to amend poor soil.	Poor Student is unable to restate any vocabulary or identify ways to amend poor soil.
