Biography Report 
This rubric will assist in assessing a nonfiction report on an U.S. President's biography. The students will choose a President who has influenced history. They are then to conduct research which must include a book, but using more than one resource. They will present an oral report while I show a picture of the President in the background.

The student's report must be over a current or former U.S. President. The student must be able to identify the ordinal position of their Presidency, years of birth and death, major accomplishments, and how he helped (or not) America.

The student identified the President by his ordinal position and his full name. He was clearly able to announce the dates of his birth and death (if applicable). The student must recount major accomplishments and possible major moments in history. Finally, the student must be able to make a judgement call on the effectiveness of this man as President with reasons for this decision.

The student identified the President by his ordinal position and his full name. He was clearly able to announce the dates of his birth and death (if applicable).

The student knew very little about their chosen President. They could only say a portion of the man's name and perhaps whether or not he is still alive. They may have remembered a small detail about him.

Student demonstrated understanding of the person, and presented to the class in an effective manner.

Student demonstrated their understanding in an effective manner, but had trouble presenting to the class. Some words used in the report were unfamiliar to the student who had difficulty with the pronunciation.
Poor

Student demonstrated some understanding of the reading, but had some trouble displaying their knowledge to the class. Stumbled over report, and words used were beyond the student's understanding.
Use of Resources
10 %

Student was required to use one complete book plus additional resources. Those resources could have been from the internet or other library books.

Superior

Student used at least 3 book, and additional material from the internet. The student may have also listened to stories and opinions of adults.
Excellent

Student used 2 books and the internet. The student may have also listened to stories and opinions of adults.
Good

Student used one book and the internet. The student may have also listened to stories and opinions of adults.
Poor

Student listened to stories people told.
