How a student shape and mold play dough is an important part of writing and drawing stages.

Palmar-supinate grasp- Children grasp the play dough to mold with their fist.

Digital Pronate Grasp- Children grasp molding material with thumb and forefinger with the forearm turned away from the body, the molding material is held toward the thumb and the shoulder directs the movement.

Children grasp the modeling material between the thumb and two fingers, and the movement comes from the wrist or elbow.

Dynamic tripod grasp- Children grasp the molding between the thumb and two fingers and the movement comes from the hands or fingers.

Pictorial Stage- Children begin to make identifiable objects in addition to people, use a variety of colors, and may create a scene and give detailed explanations about their work.
