Phases of the Moon Models
Students work collaboratively in groups of four to design a series of models which represent the the relative positions of the Earth, Sun, and Moon as they relate to each of the 8 phases of the moon. Students will present their models as a group demonstrating each of the 8 phases in order and can explain why they appear in the same order.

Excellent
Models are accurately labeled and identifiable. Models define what phase of the moon is shown and how it occurs. Models show proper placements in relevance to the Earth, Moon and Sun. All 8 phases are represented in correct order, starting with the new moon.

Most of the important information is accurate on models. 6-7 of the phases are shown in the correct sequence starting with the New Moon.
Fair
Some of the important information is included but may be missing from a model.3-5 of the phases are shown in the correct sequence starting with the New Moon.
Poor
Very little or none of the important information is included. Less than three of the phases are presented in correct sequence starting with the New moon.

Design is very pleasingly, colorful and clean looking. Labels and information are easy to read. Shows a clear sense of design and visual appeal.

Presentation is fairly well organized. Time is split equally among all presenters. Each presenter can demonstrate two moon phases and identifies the cause but may fail to identify some elements.

Presentation loosely organizaed, Time not split equally among presenters but is close. Presenters can demonstrate each phase of the moon, but fail to identify all elements and causes.
Poor
Presentation is poorly organized. Time is not split equally among presenters. Presenters fail to demonstrate all 8 phases and their causes.
