Standards:1a,1b,1c

Below Basic

Less than 5 criteria included or element has an atomic number less than 3.
Basic

Element has an atomic number greater than 3. At least 5 criteria are included and a majority are correct.
Proficient

Element has an atomic number greater than 3. All criteria are included and at least 5 are correct.
Advanced

Element has an atomic number greater than 3. All criteria are included and are correct.
Pictures

Atom drawing with correct placement and number of protons, neutrons, and electrons; Picture of Element

Standard: 1d, 1e

Below Basic

Neither drawing nor picture is included or drawing incorrectly represents the structure of an atom.
Basic

At least a drawing of the atom is included with the correct structure of an atom.
Proficient

Both drawing and picture are included. Drawing correctly represents the structure of an atom but includes the wrong number of subatomic particles.
Advanced

Both drawing and picture are included. Drawing correctly represents the structure of an atom of the element.
Valence Electrons

Number of Valence Electrons; Ion that the element forms when gaining or losing electrons

Standard: 1d

Below Basic

Either poster lists both incorrectly or does not include.
Basic

Poster includes either the correct number of valence electrons or the correct common ion.
Proficient

Poster lists the correct number of valence electrons or shows these electrons. Poster lists the most common ion.
Advanced

Poster lists the correct number of valence electrons and shows valence electrons in the drawing. Poster lists the correct most common ion.
Bonding

Three compounds that contain the element; Types of bonds forming the compounds; Uses of the element

Standard: 2a

Below Basic

Poster does not include or incorrectly lists compounds.
Basic

Poster lists three compounds that include the element, but does not include or is incorrect about the types of bonding.
Proficient

Poster lists at least two compounds and the correct type of bonding to form each.
Advanced

Poster lists three compounds and the correct type of bonding to form each.
Poster includes some uses for the element.
Periodic Trends Comparison

Atomic Radius; Electronegativity; Ionization Energy

Standard: 1c

Below Basic

Poster does not include comparisons.
Basic

Poster correctly lists at least one comparison.
Proficient

Poster correctly lists at least 2 comparisons.
Advanced

Poster correctly lists all three comparisons (atomic radius, ionization energy, and electronegativity)
Effort, Appearance, and Creativity

Below Basic

Little effort was put into project.
Basic

Poster resembles a MySpace page and is larger than a piece of construction paper.
Proficient

Poster resembles a MySpace page and looks as though some effort was put into making it. Poster is large enough.
