Approach to Problem	Novice Unable to generate any strategies to solve the problem	Apprentice Beginning to develop a strategy attempts the problem	Practioner Developed a strategy to solve but fails to complete the problem	Expert Shows a strategy to solve the problem i.e. draw a picture, an array, a poem, etc.
Comprehension	Novice Attempts, but demonstrates no understanding of the problem	Apprentice Minimal understanding of the problem.
