Student is obviously unprepared for the task. No evidence of any rehearsals.
Memorization

Excellent

The student has memorized the entire monologue and is able to present it without error.
Good

The student has memorized entire monologue and is able to present with just one error from which h/she recovers.
Fair

The student has memorized entire monologue and is able to present, however makes three+ errors and doesn't recover.
Weak

The student has not memorized the monologue.
Physical Presence

Excellent

Student employs proper posture and gestures, is relaxed and confident, and maintains appropriate audience contact.
Good

Student employs proper posture and gestures, is relaxed and confident, and maintains appropriate audience contact most of the time or is lacking in one of these elements.
Fair

Presentation is lacking in two or more of the criteria.
Weak

The student slouches, looks uncomfortable and makes no effective contact with the audience at all. Tension and nervousness is obvious.
Clarity and Expression

Excellent

The student speaks clearly, distinctly, and recites loudly enough for all to hear throughout the presentation.
Good

The student speaks clearly and distinctly. The tone and volume OR the emotion conveyed did not always fit the content.
Fair

The student speaks clearly but is, at times, indistinct, too quiet, OR the emotion it conveyed often did not fit the content.
Weak

The student does not speak clearly, mispronounces words and is inaudible to the audience. Spoken in monotone.
Audience participation

Excellent

Was an excellent audience member. Sat quietly and still during all the performances. Encouraged classmates with applause at the end of other presentations.
Good

Was a good audience member most of the time. Did not always sit still. Encouraged classmates with applause at the end of other presentations.
Fair

Was an adequate audience member some of the time. Did not always sit still and was distracting to others. Sometimes encouraged classmates with applause at the end of other presentations.
Weak

Was disruptive during other performances causing frequent distractions for others.
