Good The character(s) is/are clearly developed with descriptions of each character, but sometimes does not make sense in the story. The antagonist's motivations are weak and poorly developed.	Fair The character(s) is/are somewhat developed, but sometimes does not make sense in the story. The antagonist's motivations are under-developed.	Needs Improvement The character(s) is/are barely developed. The antagonist has no motive for his/her actions.
Setting	Excellent Use of setting provides a dark mood. Setting assists in the creation of suspense. Setting and characters interact appropriately.	Good Use of setting provides a weak mood. Setting assists in the creation of suspense. Characters should interact more with the setting.	Fair Setting is poorly described. Suspense is lacking. Characters and setting do not interact well.	Needs Improvement No use of setting is present in the short story. It is clearly undetermined. No suspense. Characters do not seem aware of their setting.
Plot	Excellent Story has at least one well defined problem/conflict, a climax and an engaging ending.	Good Story has a problem/conflict, a climax, and an acceptable resolution.	Fair Story has a problem and solution, but the problem never reaches a climax. Or the stroy has a problem and a climax but it not fully developed. Creativity x2	Excellent Story includes dialogue and plenty of details that give the reader images in their mind while reading the story. Story is a successful horror story.	Good Story includes dialogue and some details that give the reader images in their mind while reading the story. Story is clearly of the horror genre.	Fair Story includes dialogue and very few details that give the reader images in their mind while reading the story. Story includes a few elements of the horror genre.	Needs Improvement Story is told with very little or no details to provide the reader images in the mind while reading the story. Most elements of the horror genre are not present.
