Negative and positive space 
Students will create two original drawings from observation of a still life and then a skeleton. Drawings must have realistic proportions, refined use of color media, and students must display good work ethic and use of studio time.

Drawing has not been pushed and lacks accuracy in correct proportion. Spaces are indicated but not accurately placed.
Approaching

Drawing shows some accuracy in observation with some accuracy in parts and proportion. Contour edges and spaces lack excellence but are still good. Some details are missing.
Very Good

Careful observation is reflected in the drawing with practically accurate proportion, contour edges, and nearly accurate placement of inner spaces. Details could be more excellent.

Drawing reflects careful observation of the object studied with accurate realistic proportion, accurate contour edges, accurate placement of inner spaces. Details are obvious in the lines that are drawn

Background painting demonstrates an excellent understanding of value and blending . Shading is well blended with consistency throughout the work.
Perception of Relationships

Does the artwork show a relationship between the two different subject matters chosen?

Begining

Drawing is weak in showing understanding of relationship between Subject matter.
Developing

Drawing shows only moderate understanding of relationship between Subject matter.
Approaching

Drawing is good but could be pushed further in understanding of relationship between subject matter.
Very Good

Drawing shows strong understanding of relationship of light to dark and strongly gives the illusion of a relationship.
Mastery

Drawing shows excellent understanding of relationship of light to shadows and composition and relationship between the skeleton and the portrait.
Perception of the Whole

Finished work shows great craftsmanship: clean, neat, color enhances the work.

Begining

Craftsmanship is very weak. Drawing has not been cleaned-up and color application is weak or non-existent.
Developing

Drawing lacks neatness and has not been thoroughly cleaned-up. Color is very moderately applied.
Approaching

Craftsmanship is good but color is not as refined and controlled as possible. Color does not enhance the drawing.

Work is strongly crafted and condition is clean, neat, with strong use of color that does not distract from the detail of the drawing.
