Improving Student sometimes participates in class, listens attentively, raises hand, and shares ideas, questions and knowledge.	Proficient Student consistently participates in class, listens attentively, raises hand, and shares ideas, questions and knowledge.	Exemplary Student is a visible leader in class and helps drive discussion, listens attentively, raises hand, and shares ideas, questions and knowledge.
Comprehension	Beginning Student seldom shows an understanding for the class subject, offers insight and shares ideas.	Improving Student sometimes shows an understanding for the class subject, offers insights and shares ideas.	Proficient Student consistently shows an understanding for the class subject, offers insights and shares ideas.	Exemplary Student shows a superior understanding of the class subject, offers highly original insights and shares original ideas.
Ask questions	Beginning Student never asks questions or inquires during class discussion.	Improving Student sometimes asks questions and inquires during class discussion.	Proficient Student always asks questions and inquires during class discussion.	Exemplary Student asks innovative and thought provoking questions during class discussion.
Attentiveness	Beginning Student is rarely engaged and often distracts other students during the discussion. 4 or more reminders to stay involved are needed.	Improving Student is sometimes engaged and may distract other students during the discussion. 3 reminders to stay involved are needed.	Proficient Student is mostly engaged in the discussion and only needs 1-2 reminders to stay involved	Exemplary Student is always engaged and shows interest in the discussion.
