5th Grade Magic Trash Sculptures
The students learned about the artist Tyree Guyton who was famous for his Heildelburg project in Detroit City. He added color and form to a run down neighborhood to bring it to life! Once his style was viewed, the students worked as teams and glued together recycled trash pieces to create a nonobjective sculpture. The sculpture was then decorated with paint and other decorative materials making the everyday trash pieces come alive with excitement.

Good

Sculpture is nonobjective and has contrasting pulls. Sculpture is built up with levels. Smaller pieces used. Aesthetics are pleasing.

No planning evident.
Fair

Glue is still clearly seen. Paint is sloppy but some pattern placed with decorative
pieces. Minimal planning.
Good

Glue is seen in only drips in a few areas. Paint is contained and colors have some unity. Decorative materials appear to have been somewhat thought out, but there is a disconnect between materials.
Excellent

Great care and time were given in gluing. Paint colors contained and or are well thought out. Decorative materials compliment the paint and structure and are placed with apparent decision of the pieces.
