Introduction
10 pts

What is the purpose of the experiment and how do the variables affect it?

POOR

The purpose is not clearly defined, or is missing 1-2 measuring variables with explanations in the lab
AVERAGE

The purpose is not known, and at least half of the measuring variables are not defined or explained
EXCELLENT

The purpose of the lab is clearly written, with all of the independent and dependent variables identified and explained in the context of the experiment
Apparatus and Procedure
10 pts

POOR

The diagram is not neat or is missing 1-2 labels. The procedure has 1-2 steps that may be unclear or ambiguous, not written in past tense. materials used not listed.hypothesis missen
AVERAGE

Very little effort was put into the diagram, and the procedure is so confusing that a person could not replicate the experiment. material used not properly stated.hypothesis not clear
EXCELLENT

The diagram is clearly drawn with all of the variables labeled. The procedure has a concise and brief series of steps with an explanation of how to control the variables included. matierial correctly stated and procedure writen in past tense
Raw Data
10 pts

What does the untouched data look like?

POOR

Some of the tables (1-2) need unit corrections or are not clearly labeled.
AVERAGE

The tables have no clear organization or units, and the number of trials is not sufficient to make an accurate conclusion.
EXCELLENT

All of the measurements are organized into a neat table with values and units clearly labeled. There are multiple trials taken as data (follow lab instructions)
Analysis
10 pts

What does the evaluation of data look like? Where do you show what you do with the data you have?

POOR

Either the table, the graphs, or the interpretation of the graph is not satisfactory.
AVERAGE

More than one of the requirements is missing or incomplete.
EXCELLENT

A table of calculated values is given with a sample calculation included. The graphs have appropriately labeled axes and trend lines, with an appropriately written explanation of what hypothesis the graphs support, with units for slope and y-intercept labeled.
Conclusion
10 pts

What are the final results of your experiment?

POOR

Either the goals stated in the introduction are not completely addressed, or there is some confusion with how 1-2 of the variables affect the experiment. Good faith efforts are made to explain divergent results.
AVERAGE

The conclusion does not match up with the introduction and the majority of the variables are not explained. There is no attempt to make sense of the errors and any poor results are ascribed to human error.
EXCELLENT

The conclusion addresses the goals mentioned in the introduction, with all of the relationships between the variables explained. Any divergent results are given a reasonable explanation.
