Voice	Fair/Needs Improvement Speech difficult to hear. Voice is soft and cannot be heard well by audience. No inflection.	Good Some problems with voice volume and clarity. There is some or very little voice inflection.	Excellent Nice voice quality and speed. Speaker uses inflections to enhance his or her piece clearly.
Nonverbal/Body Language	Fair/Needs Improvement The student rocks, sways, or leans against a board, wall,or other object. He or she lacks practice or effort. Student struggles to maintain or keep eye contact.	Good The student may sway, rock, or occasionally lean but makes an attempt to connect with audience. Eye contact is fair and some appropriate facial expressions are used throughout the speech.	Excellent The student's movements are practiced and planned. All of his or her movements enhance the literary piece.
Fluency	Fair/Needs Improvement The student has noticeable pauses or takes long breaks between words. The student restarts multiple times and/or stammers over his or her words.	Good The student takes minimal pauses or breaks. He or she restarts or stammers 1-2 times.	Excellent The student speaks at a fluid conversational pace with no pauses, breaks, or restarts.
Time	Fair/Needs Improvement Requirements for memorized piece were not met. Piece recited was too short.	Good Memorized piece was recited but the appropriate time allowance was not met.	Excellent Gave recitation within the required time frame for the memorized work. Dramatic/Humorous Reading- 60% eye contact. Manuscript used.
