Rubric Criteria
	Fails to Atempt Essay 0 pts	Meets Proficiency 4 pts	Exceeds Proficiency 7 pts
Length	Fails to Atempt Essay Student lacks 4 or more required sentences.	Meets Proficiency The essay lacks 1-3 rquired sentences.	Exceeds Proficiency The essay meets the required length.
Supporting Detail Sentence	Fails to Atempt Essay Student does not include details on point.	Meets Proficiency Paragraph(s) have only one supporting detail sentence that relate back to the main idea. Few statements are inaccurate.	Exceeds Proficiency Paragraph(s) have two to three supporting detail sentences that relate back to the main point. All statements are accurate.
Mechanics and Grammar	Fails to Atempt Essay paragraph has more than four punctuation, capitalization, grammar, and/or spelling errors.	Meets Proficiency Paragraph has one to three	Exceeds Proficiency Paragraph has no error in punctuation, grammar, capitalization, and spelling.
Introduction and Conclusion	Fails to Atempt Essay Essay does not have either introduction or conclusion.	Meets Proficiency Essay lacks either the introduction or conclusion.	Exceeds Proficiency Essay has introduction stating clearly what the essay is about. Conclusion ties the paragraph together.
