Setting	1 Students attempt to provide setting, but is unable to provide even one correct component.	2 Students can provide 1 element of the setting.	3 Students can provide most details of the setting.	4 Students can provide multiple details of the setting.
Character	1 Students try but are unable to name a character from the story.	2 Students can name one character from the story.	3 Students can identify most of the characters that are important to the story.	4 The students can identify the main character(s) and the important supporting characters in the story.
