Represents Interpretive Meaning	Not enough to assess I did not write enough to show that I interpreted the poem.	Fair I need to work on interpreting the poem and not just summarizing what was already read. My work needs improvement on including MY interpretation in my own words and not just a regurgitation of the poem.	Good I can interpret the poem and use my own words to convey my answer.	Excellent I can interpret the poem and use my own words to convey my answer. I also go 'above and beyond' in supporting my answer by using rich vocabulary and much detail.
Supportive Evidence	Not enough to assess I did not quote any supporting evidence.	Fair I need to work on quoting supportive evidence.	Good I can quote supporting evidence. I need to work on increasing the amount of supporting evidence within my writing.	Excellent I can correctly use and cite supportive evidence from the poem that are accurate and relevant. I have used the term, for example, when referencing the poem or have used direct quotes.
Deep Understanding of Text	Not enough to assess I have no idea what's going on.	Fair I can understand some parts of the poem and convey this in my writing; however, I need to work on understanding the entire poem. I can do this by re-reading difficult sections or by asking questions.	Good I understand the entire poem and can convey this within my writing.	Excellent I understand the entire poem and can convey this within my writing. I also demonstrate a deep meaning of the poem and include that deep understanding within my writing.
