Organization	Unsatisfactory The student's herringbone lacks organization.	Satisfactory The student has little organization and some of the six comprehension questions were not answered.	Excellent The student exhibits great organization throughout the entire Herringbone. All six of the comprehension questions are answered completely.
Main Idea	Unsatisfactory The student does not identify the main idea or does not use a complete sentence to state the main idea.	Satisfactory The student addresses the main idea in a complete sentence; however, the main idea is not the main idea of the story.	Excellent The student fully understands the main idea of the text and can write the main idea in one or more sentences. The student uses the six comprehension questions to create these sentences.
Examples From Text	Unsatisfactory The student does not use examples from the text to help fill out the Herringbone activity.	Satisfactory The student uses some examples from the text; however, some of the six questions are not answered from the text.	Excellent The student uses examples from the text for all six of the comprehension questions and it is obvious that the student understands and comprehends the text.
