Video Selection & Essence
Advanced
Scenes are chosen appropriately. They are short and filled with text or action, or other relevant moments from the movie. Symbol and essence is clear.
Proficient
Scenes are chosen appropriately for the most part, with movie's essence basically captured. A few scenes might not be relevant to capturing the essence of the movie, or symbol may be questionable.
Basic
Scenes chosen do not add to trailer and are weak. Symbol scene is off or missing. Many clips are lengthy or leave the viewer wondering what they have to do with the movie's essence.
Below Basic
No clear connection at all to movie trailer scenes and the essence of the movie.
Titles & Transitions
Advanced
Title/text slides and transitions add something special to the trailer, and do not detract from overall trailer. Transitions are smooth and seamless. Text chosen is appropriate with clear links to the movie's plot.
Proficient
Titles and text lack in a few places, but overall, they do not greatly detract from the trailer. Transitions work for the most part, but may be inconsistent or have a part that does not smoothly connect the trailer. Text chosen was fair but could use more sophistication.
Basic
Titles and text detract from trailer, as they add little to nothing to the overall trailer. Transitions are very noticeable and lack any consistency. Text/titles, if included, lack a clear connection to the movie.
Below Basic
Little evidence of titles/text or transition use.
Background Music
Advanced
Musical background clearly matches the intent of changing the movie's essence. Sound utilized created suspense, was not overpowering. Voices could be heard. Additional sound effects are present, enhancing the overall trailer.
Proficient
Voices and music were basically a good match to the intended change of movie essence. Some sounds may have been hard to hear or overpowering. Additional sound effects may be present, and somewhat enhance the overall trailer.
Basic
Music did not fit show a clear intent to change the movie's essence. Sound and voices were not edited well and are hard to hear. If any additional effects are present, they detract from the overall trailer.
Below Basic
Music added does not show a clear intent to change the movie's essence. Editing with vocals is very weak. No additional effects are present, or if they are, they do not match the intended movie essence at all.
Trailer Time
Advanced
Length of trailer meets minimum requirement. (2:00-2:30)
Proficient
Length of trailer does not meet minimum/maximum requirement, but is close. (no less than 2:00, no more than 2:40)
Basic
Length of trailer does not meet minimum/maximum requirement by a significant margin. (More or less than 20 seconds.)
Below Basic
Timing is completely out of the requirement window (under 1:00 or over 3:00)
Planning & Presentation
Advanced
The overall presentation is well planned and created, displaying a clear intent to use existing video and change the essence by use of alternate music. Effects are added at appropriate places and enhance the trailer's appeal. Transitions and any additional video are worked in seamlessly so that the viewer does not notice pieces were compiled from various sources.
Proficient
The overall presentation shows evidence of planning and preparation, but the clear essence of the changed video is not completely evident. Effects are added at appropriate places and mostly enhance the trailer's appeal. Transitions and additional video are evident, but may not be seamlessly edited into the overall project.
Basic
The overall presentation shows limited evidence of planning and preparation, and the clear essence of the changed video is very weak. Few effects are added, and those that are do not fit seamlessly into the overall trailer. Little if any evidence of additional video or audio exists.
Below Basic
The overall presentation seems quickly put together, with little to no evidence of a clear intent to change the essence of the original trailer. No effects or transitions were added to the project, and if anything was added, it is obviously taken from another source and does not match the rest of the trailer.
