Descriptive Writing Rubric Descriptive Writing Rubric Students will write a scary story using sensory words to create a descriptive essay. Writing will be graded on capitalization, punctuation, use of a clear main idea, supporting details, spelling, use of sensory words and details and creative adjectives. Main Idea & Details	Excellent Essay contains a strong topic/main idea and closing along with adequate major details with supporting details.	Satisfactory Essay contains a clear topic and closing with a few major and minor details.	Needs Improvement The essay does not contain a clear main idea and/or closing and/or related details.	Unsatisfactory This essay is not organized and/or does not make sense.
Spelling-	Excellent The essay is free of spelling errors.	Satisfactory The essay has 1 - 4 spelling errors.	Needs Improvement The essay has 5 or more spelling errors.	Unsatisfactory Incorrect spelling impairs meaning and understanding.
