Understands key ideas of story.	Poor Student is able to identify one key idea of the story.	Fair Student is able to identify at least two key ideas of the story.	Good Student is able to identify three or more key ideas of the story.	Excellent Student is able to identify all key ideas of the story.
Understands a main character.	Poor Student is able to identify one character and one characteristic about him/her.	Fair Student is able to identify one character and two characteristics about him/her.	Good Student is able to identify one character and three or more characteristics about him/her.	Excellent Students is able to identify one character and all of the characteristics about him/her
Summarizing of story.	Poor Student is able to summarize only one part of story with very little details.	Fair Student is able to summarize more than one part of the story with one or two details.	Good Student is able to summarize most of story clearly and effectively with two or more details.	Excellent Students is able to summarize the entire story clearly and effectively with three or more details.
Predictions.	Poor Student is not able to make a valid prediction based on what the text says.	Fair Student can make vague predictions that correlate to the information in the story in one sentence.	Good Student can make valid predictions based on the information in the story and is able to elaborate in two sentences.	Excellent Student can make valid predictions based on the information in the story and is able to elaborate verbally and in three sentences.
