News Magazine Review Project 
Students will create a special interest magazine in order to review article writing techniques. Additionally, students will be introduced to photojournalism, design, and advertising concepts that they must use when creating their magazine.

Journalist does not provide the required number of articles: one news story, one feature, one editorial. Content of articles does not follow journalistic structure or style nor does it fit the Mills target audience.
Meets Expectation

Four articles are included (News, Sports, Editorial, Feature).
Each article follows writing techniques appropriate to article type. Content is mostly relevant to Mills audience.
Exceeds Expectation

All four article types are included, and it is immediately apparent to readers which article is which type (News, Feature, Sports, Editorial). The articles are well-written, relevant to the target audience, timely, and thoughtful.
Overall Design

The publication lacks organization and is not atheistically appealing. Little to no design principles were used.
Meets Expectation

The publication is organized and neat. Some design principles are used.
Exceeds Expectation

The publication is thoughtfully organized, neat, and very aesthetically pleasing. Many design principles are used.

The requirement of four original photographs is not met. The journalist did not consider good photocomposition concepts when taking pictures.

Photo requirements are met, but the pictures may not follow elements of good photocomposition.

Photo requirements are met, and the journalist has taken pictures that follow elements of good photo composition.
Advertisements

The publication is lacking two required advertisements or the ads are unattractive and/or do not appeal to the target audience.

The publication has the required advertisements, but the ads may not include a headline, introduction, body or call to action.
Exceeds Expectation

The publication has the required advertisements and those advertisements include a headline, introduction, body and a call to action. The ads also fit well with the content of the magazine and appeal to the target audience.
Mechanics

Working Towards Expectation

There are too many distracting errors in grammar and/or mechanics for the content to be published.
Meets Expectation

There are only minor errors in grammar or mechanics that are not distracting the readers.
