The poster includes all of the 8 Principles of Design. It represents each one in a creative and thought provoking way. Personal artistic ideas have been incorporated into one harmonious design.
Above Average
The poster includes all of the 8 Principles of Design. The principles are planned, but may not be all tied together harmoniously. Composition is less dynamic.
Proficient
The poster is somewhat planned, and the Principles of Art are apparent after reading explanations of which principles were chosen by the student on the back of their rubric. Composition is very plain in design.
Needs Improvement
The poster shows little or no understanding of the Principles of Design or the student did not complete an explanation of each principle.
Craftsmanship
Advanced
The poster demonstrates clear attention to detail to detail, no pencil or eraser marks are present. All color is filled in one direction with no white space showing. A ruler is used for all straight edges.
Above Average
The poster demonstrate good craftsmanship with some attention to detail. Coloring is neatly done and all areas are filled in appropriately. Some pencil or eraser marks may be showing or a ruler may not be used for all straight edges.
Proficient
The craftsmanship of the poster is acceptable but could be better with more effort. Coloring may be somewhat messy, a ruler may not always have been used and/ work may be left in pencil.
Needs Improvement
The poster appeared hastily done. Detail was not evident. Attention to coloring neatly and filling all space was not evident. Rulers were not used.
Appearance of the poster indicates student did not put forth necessary time/ effort into his work.
Creativity/Originality

The student explored several choices before selecting one; generating many ideas; tried unusual combinations; made connections to previous knowledge; demonstrated understanding of problem solving skills; demonstrated more that one technique for several elements

The student tried a few ideas before selecting one; or based his work on someone else's idea; made decisions after referring to one source; may have used more than one technique for elements based on source material
Proficient
The student filled the poster with the Principle's of Design adequately, but gave no evidence of trying anything unusual; work lacked originality
Needs Improvement
The student showed no evidence of original thought even with assistance from teacher, visual examples, and handouts provided. Did not put any effort into work; or did not complete project

The student used a variety of media in an advanced manner so as to enhance the composition; chose color schemes carefully so each section relates to the whole composition.

The student used a variety of media effectively so as to enhance the composition; chose color schemes carefully to enhance the design

Student used at least two types of media in the composition; media was applied adequately. Color scheme lacks contrast; with more effort work could be better

The student finished the project, but it could have been improved with a little more effort. Adequate interpretation, but lacking finish. May occasionally be late to class and/or may not always come to class prepared. May be off task at times.

The student did not finish the work adequately. Did not follow directions despite receiving them in writing, receiving handouts, seeing visual examples, and receiving individual instruction by teacher. Lack of pride in work/or poor conduct/or refusal to work
