Excellent:
Report includes: Purpose, hypothesis,materials, procedures, observations, and a conclusion.
Good:
Report is mostly complete,organized, neat, but one or two details are missing.
Fair:
Student did not follow directions, is incomplete, or there are significant errors in more than one place.
Poor:
Report is mostly incomplete, difficult to understand, has errors.
Hypothesis
Excellent:
Student offers a clear, carefully explained prediction of what will happen based upon their own scientific knowledge.
Good:
Student offers an explanation of what they predict will happen using some scientific knowledge.
Fair:
Student makes a prediction of what will happen without any supporting scientific knowledge.
Poor:
Student makes a guess as to what might happen but the ideas are unsupported.
Procedure
Excellent:
Procedure is clear, easy to follow and carefully completed with step by step instructions.
Good:
Procedure is complete and easy to follow. Step by step instructions are included but some steps are missing.
Fair:
Procedure is missing some steps and those that are included are not clear enough to follow.
Poor:
Procedure is incomplete, with only a few steps that cannot be followed.
Conclusions
Excellent:
Clear and concise CONCLUSIONS are given. Conclusion clearly explains the results using scientific language
Good:
Conclusions are present and complete, and explains some of the findings of the results
Fair:
Missing some parts of conclusion and the results are not explained
Poor:
Missing conclusion completely, or it is inaccurate.
Diagram
Excellent:
A clear and well drawn picture of the experiment was included. Picture is carefully and neatly drawn and labelled.
Good:
A picture of the experiment was included. Picture is drawn relatively neatly and is labelled.
Fair:
The picture is included. It is messy and not labelled.
Poor:
No picture is included.
Grammar and Spelling
Excellent:
Student has no grammar or spelling errors
Good:
Student has 3 or less grammar or spelling errors
Fair:
Student has 4-6 grammar or spelling errors
Poor:
Student hasmore than 6 grammar or spelling errors
