Clarity of Focus	Beginning Focus is unclear and readers must do a significant amount of work to determine the main points you are trying to make.	Developing Main point or points are clear but without elaboration or specifics, your argument or perspective is weakened.	Strong Focus is clear and substantial throughout the Reflection, giving the reader such a clear view into your thinking about the topic that the reader can easily find a point of entry to respond.
Intellectual Engagement	Beginning Reflection makes no reference to issues raised through readings and/or class activities.	Developing Entry makes some reference to issues raised through readings and/or class activities, but simply restates those ideas with little evidence of your own consideration.	Strong Reflection demonstrates thoughtful identification of and engagement with the important issues raised through readings and/or class activities
Engaged Writing	Beginning As a writer, you use incorrect grammar and syntax consistently, making it difficult for others to follow. No evidence of connecting your thoughts to those of others is visible.	Developing Your entries demonstrate inconsistent use of correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc. It is difficult to see coherence or conviction in your writing.	Strong Reflection and responses show a very good command of Standard English and have some flair and originality that communicate your voice and meaning while inviting response.
