Dance Assessment Guide 
Below is a chart that shows you exactly how your class grade will be determined. All students are expected to participate in class! Remember this is your ELECTIVE. Dance is primarily marked on effort and PERSONAL achievment. It is imperative that you be in class every day and taking part. Smile and have fun!

Shows up in class.

Excellent

Student is always on time and regularly attends classes.
Good

Student is absent one or two times.
Fair

Student is absent three times.
Poor

Student has four or more absences.
PUNCTUALITY

Arrives to class AND on time

Excellent

Student is on time regularly or early for class.
Good

Student is usually on time or early (one or two tardies).
Fair

Student is sometimes on time (three or four tardies).
Poor

Student is often late, four or more times. Zero points for 5+ tardies.
LEVEL OF ENGAGEMENT AND BEHAVIOR

Participates in class

Excellent

Student is on task and engaged in all classes. Student works independently to improve. Student asks for assistance and support in their learning. Does not use cell phone at all.
Good

Student is on task and engaged most of the time. Student usually works well independently to improve. Sometimes asks for help and direction from teacher. May have used cell phone at least once.
Fair

Student sometimes participates and is somewhat engaged in class. Does not work well independently and relies on teacher for motivation to do well. Is prone to being on their cell phone in class.
Poor

Student does not participate in class well and is rarely engaged. Student never asks for input or teacher support. Distracted by social concerns and may be on their cell phone too much during class.
PREPARATION

Brings all materials

Excellent

Student is always prepared for class with gym strip and proper shoes. Student does small homework assignments and brings necessary devices for music.
Good

Student is usually prepared for class with gym strip and proper shoes. Student usually does small homework tasks and usually remembers devices for music.
Fair

Student is frequently unprepared for class in terms of gym strip and proper shoes. Student often neglects homework and often does not come prepared with a music device.
Poor

Student is almost always unprepared for class. Gym strip and proper shoes are forgotten more than half of the time. Student does not do homework assignments and does not show up with a device for music.
INDEPENDENT WORK

Choreography and Group Work

Excellent

Student always works well in a group. Allows input from other members. Shares choreography role.
Good

Student often works well in a group. Often allows input from other members. Usually shares choreography role.
Fair

Student sometimes works well in a group. Student may often disallow input from others. Sometimes allows others to choreograph.
Poor

Student does not work well in a group and is often distracted socially. Student needs to learn how to share ideas in a group. Choreography needs to be done by all members in a group.
FITNESS

Fitness and Toning

Excellent

Student always works hard during the Fitness portion of dance class.
Good

Student usually works hard during the Fitness portion of dance class.
Fair

Student sometimes works hard during the Fitness portion of dance class.
Poor

Student does not work hard during the Fitness portion of dance class.
ARTISTRY

Growing as a dancer

Excellent

Student always challenges them selves in terms of music choice, choreography and style.
Good

Student usually challenges them selves in terms of music choice, choreography, and style.
Fair

Student sometimes challenges them selves in terms of music choice, choreography, and style.
Poor

Student does not challenge them selves in terms of music choice, choreography, and style. Student often copies choreography from others (YouTube, dance groups, crews, etc).
