Engineering Design Process: Angry Bird Catapult Engineering Design Process: Angry Bird Catapult This rubric is used to assess the students' use of the engineering design process for designing a catapult using kid friendly materials and tools without adult assistance. Limitations: Catapult must fit in a shoe box with close lid, materials and tools must be , have no sharp edged or protruding edges. contain mainly RECYCLABLE materials (not including the duct tape), have at least 3 different materials. Engineering Design Process

Plan	Poor You did not plan what you were going to build nor plan on what materials to use.	Fair Some evidence of a plan. There was some thought to materials/building, but not really thought out.	Good Good evidence of planning done. Materials were listed and thought out, but the plan wasn't quite complete.	Excellent All materials were listed and well thought out. I can't wait to see how you build your toy for Winter.
Design	Poor Your design lacked materials that were needed. It was really hard for me to tell what you built or were building.	Fair Some materials were used correctly. The toy lacked creativity and there were parts that weren't secure.	Good Good use of the materials and plan. The toy was nice and well put together, but there were parts that weren't secure.	Excellent Great use of materials! You maximized your use of materials and created a great toy for Winter.
Time Management	Poor Did not use time well. Time was wasted during the plan, and design phase of engineering.	Fair Sometimes used time well. There were times when the group got off task during the plan, and design phase.	Good Good use of time, there were a few times when the group got off task, but for the majority of the task time was well spent.	Excellent Great use of time. The group stayed on task during each phase of the process.
Participation	Poor You had to be reminded several times to stay on task.	Fair You participated during the building process. The group had to be redirected a few times.	Good You worked together and didn't have to be redirected that much at all.	Excellent You worked together flawlessly and got the job done. The group never had to be redirected.
