Proficient -Submitted a cursory response electronically. -Came to class with the discussion question but with little additional preparation needed to lead the discussion.	Distinguished -Submitted a well-written and complete response electronically and prior to class. -Came to class having done adequate preparation to lead the discussion.
Discussion and Engagement	Below Standard -Showed little connection with textbook. -Weak engagement of classmates.	Proficient -Did a good job of engaging fellow students. -Did a weak job of connecting the discussion with the content of the week's textbook reading.	Distinguished -Did a great job of engaging fellow students. -Kept the discussion on track by connecting the discussion with the context of the textbook reading for this week.
Facilitator Strategy	Below Standard -Avoided or discouraged active audience participation. -Demonstrates incomplete knowledge of the question and its possible answers.	Proficient -Encouraged some audience interaction. -Demonstrated knowledge of subject but is weak in dealing specifically with the discussion question itself.	Distinguished -Was highly effective at engaging fellow students in the discussion. -Demonstrated thorough knowledge and preparation for leading the discussion.
Summarizing and Concluding	Below Standard -Failed to close the discussion with a summary or concluding remarks.	Proficient -Made some appropriate concluding remarks. -Was weak at summarizing the discussion.	Distinguished -Helped the class see the logical conclusions of their discussion. -Summarized the main points and final determinations of the class discussion.
