Preparation/Analysis

Exceeds Expectations

Student is well prepared and it is obvious that he/she took time and effort to deeply consider the meaning of the poem, and poetic choices the poet made, from their own personal perspective.
Meets Expectations

Student is well prepared but the presentation of the poem may require another rehearsal. The analysis begins to dig deeper but could go a bit further.
Good

Student's presentation could require a few more rehearsals. The analysis is at a surface level, the message feels more like a topic than a theme.
Developing

Student's presentation feels rushed and underprepared would benefit from several more rehearsals. Pem is basically read with little to no effort engaged in analysis.
Pausing and Pacing

*Punctuation/Enjambment

Exceeds Expectations

The student uses pauses and pace IMPACTFULLY to communicate meaning and/or enhance dramatic impact of the poem. All punctuation and enjambment are read with precision.
Meets Expectations

The students uses pauses and pacing to communicate meaning and/or enhance dramatic impact of the poem.
Good

Pauses and pacing may be adequate but needs more dramatic enhancement.
Developing

Pauses and pacing were not effective in improving meaning and/or dramatic effect. Pauses at ends of lines rather than at punctuation marks. Delivery is in bursts or without care for punctuation.
Clarity and Expression

*Pronunciation
*Pitch
*Tone

Exceeds Expectations

The student speaks clearly, distinctly, and with appropriate and varied pitch and tone modulation. Recites loudly enough for all to hear throughout the presentation.
Meets Expectations

The student speaks clearly and distinctly. Some minor lapses in pitch, tone and volume OR the emotion conveyed did not always fit the content OR emphasis uneven.
Good

Student speaks clearly but is indistinct a few times. Some lapses in pitch, tone, and volume OR the emotion conveyed did nit fit content at times.
Developing

The student speaks clearly but is, at times, indistinct, too quiet, and/or pitch was rarely used OR the emotion it conveyed often did not fit the content.
Dramatic Effect

Exceeds Expectations

The student's gestures and facial expressions greatly enhanced the delivery of the poem.
Meets Expectations

The student made gestures appropriate for the words and made use of the stage.
Good

Student shows some dramatic flair in use of gestures and of the stage.
Developing

The student read like a robot (when the purpose was not to read like one)
