	Excellent 4 pts	Good 3 pts	Fair 2 pts	Poor 1 pts
Content	Excellent Student provides a clear answer to the Essential Question demonstrating a full understanding of the question.	Good Student provides an answer to the Essential Question demonstrating an understanding of the question.	Fair Student provides a somewhat cloudy answer to the Essential Question demonstrating very little understanding of the question.	Poor Student provides an unclear answer to the Essential Question demonstrating no understanding of the question.
Spelling and Conventions	Excellent Student has 0-2 spelling errors. Sentences are complete with no grammar errors.	Good Student has 3-5 spelling errors. Sentences are complete with minor grammar errors which do not confuse the reader's understanding.	Fair Student has 6-9 spelling errors. Sentences may include fragments and run-ons. Grammar errors cause confusion in the reader's understanding.	Poor Student has 10+ spelling errors. Sentences are not complete, may be just a list of ideas. Grammar errors cause reader not to understand.
Neatness	Excellent Student shows effort with a neatly written response using best penmanship.	Good Student shows effort with a neatly written response using good penmanship.	Fair Student shows little effort in a neatly written response and uses poor penmanship.	Poor Student shows no effort in a neatly written response with illegible or mostly illegible penmanship.
Score/Grade	Excellent 12-10 Points Advanced	Good 9-7 Points Proficient	Fair 6-4 Points Basic	Poor 4-0 Points Below Basic
