Development & organization

Excellent

Paper is clearly organized. Topic is defined and well developed. Writing goes beyond competence and is original and confident. Writer has synthesized the material. There is a strong thesis that argues a point.
Good

One of the elements in the excellent column is missing or lacking.
Tone may be subjective instead of objective.
Thesis is there, but unfocused.
Fair

Two elements are missing and/or there is not enough of the writer's presence. Some content is good, but paragraphs remain undeveloped. Thesis is vague or missing.
Poor

-Organization is missing; paper lacks clarity and/or completeness. Or the paper may be a "quilt" of quotes and repetitious because of lack of content.
