Cartographer's Challenge--Design an Island
Individual students will define landform terms from the Cartographer's Challenge project sheet prior to beginning the project. Students will develop a theme for their "island," around which they will choose and name AT LEAST 20 landforms, 6 natural resources, 5 large cities or towns, and a capital city. In addition, at least 10 items on the map should be 3-dimensional in design. Maps will also include a title, compass rose, map key, scale, and resources legend. In creating the design, students should take into consideration at what ACTUAL latitude and longitude their island would be found at, so that appropriate landforms and resources are included and in the correct locations. Once a rough draft is complete and all criteria are included, the final project poster can be completed. A verbal class presentation will be made, and neatness and timeliness of work will be evaluated.
