Workmanship Neatness	Poor Student work is very messy. Note heads are not filled in. Spacing is not even.	Developing Student work has some note heads that are not filled in. Spacing is proper in most places, but not in the entire melody.	Mastered Student clearly took his/her time. Note heads are filled in completely. Notes are spaced properly.
Rhythm Patterns and correctness	Poor Student did not use repetition or correct beats in each measure of their melody.	Developing Student did not use a repetition pattern in the melody, but correct beats were used in the melody. OR Student used a clear repetition pattern, but did not have the correct number of beats.	Mastered Student used a clear repetition pattern somewhere in the melody. Rhythms added up to the correct beats in the entire melody.
Symbol Awareness Musical symbols	Poor Student used less than half of the appropriate symbols in the melody.	Developing Student used three quarters of the musical symbols correctly.	Mastered Student used all symbols appropriately in the melody: bass clef signs, bar lines, time signature, and double bar line.
Note Accuracy Notes on staff	Poor Student used many notes that were not within the C major scale.	Developing Student used 2-3 notes that were not within the C major scale.	Mastered Student used all of the proper notes from the C scale on the staff according to the directions. The melody started and ended on space C.
