Students will choose 3 poems, of the 10 they have written, to make a final good copy of.

Students will choose a specific topic to write a poem about. The students will go through the writing process (prewriting, drafting, editing, revising and publishing) to create a poem that contains 4 stanzas with 4 lines in each stanza. The poem will have a consistent rhyme scheme throghout the poem. The student will type their poem and paste it onto a piece of construction paper. On the border around the poem, the student will create symbols that represent their poem.

Students will work in groups to design a myth/legend of how Indian Corn came to be. Upon completion groups will make traditional indian Corn Bead Jewelry.

My 5th grade students maintain reading logs for the books they are reading independently. Students are given freedom in choosing topics for their writing, so long as they are completing an entry after each independent reading session. They take their reading logs home on a daily basis to review with their parents and get them signed. I collect reading logs throughout the week (each student has a designated day that their log is to be turned in) and provide feedback.
