To be prepared for the trip, the student will research in order to be able to answer questions about their country’s resources, culture, government, religion, geography, political atmosphere, social events, recreational pastimes, history, economics, etc. They will present a report about their country in either written or digital format.

This study involves a detailed investigation of the remains of the female factory at Ross, Tasmania. Students ‘become’ archaeologists and find a variety of objects relating to convict life. They draw on a variety of sources of evidence to help them ‘interrogate’ and interpret each object, to discover what it tells us about convict life/conditions. This involves students in hypothesising, gathering evidence, analysing, then extrapolating from a particular set of findings to a much larger picture.

Students will break into groups of 4, and be assigned a country. Each student in that group will be responsible for researching one of the following topics for that country: customs, traditions, geography, and current events. Each group will then present thier findings, using visual aids to the class. Each topic should be presented using a two-minute presentation. The group is to then work together to hand in a one page, typed paper describing what they found in each of the four areas. If students want to work in smaller groups, they are allowed, but all four topic must still be covered with a two minute presentation. So, for example, a group of two would have to present 4 minutes of material each.
