You were asked to read a fictional story and choose ONE event from the story to report on. In finding the 5 W's and an H outlining format, you were to report the facts of that event in a news article format. Facts should be complete, descriptive and interesting vocabulary used and a attention grabbing headline should be created.

Students are to complete a weekly current events report using the following scale as part of their 6th Grade Social Studies Current Event/Special Interest Report.

Descriptive Essay scoring rubric.

This rubric will be used to evaluate how a student works and participates during activities (work, class, meeting, assembly, etc.). I have purposely weighted each criteria this way as I believe this rubric will be fairer to the lower level students that are trying to participate rather than those that are largely unresponsive in class - Fair = 3 and Poor = 1

The purpose of this rubric is to give students the expectations for writing compare/contrast eassy on two texts written by the same author. They will compare and contrast an author’s use of descriptive and figurative language while explaining how it impacts the meaning of each text. In preparation for this assignment, the student will have had instruction in the writing process, sentence structure, capitalization, end marks, and read each text written by the same author.

Imagine that you are the author of the book you have just read. Suddenly the book becomes a bestseller. Write a letter to a movie producer trying to get that person interested in making your book into a movie. Explain why the story, characters, conflicts, etc., would make a good film. Suggest a filming location and the actors to play the various roles. Be detailed! Create a movie poster that will entice people to watch the movie.

Narrative Writing

After investigating the structure and organisation of the news, the students noted current school events, stories or activities, wrote scripts and presented pre-recorded news reports to the class. The class is divided into groups of three, each must have a cameraperson, an anchor and a reporter.
