SOC 101
Course Description:
Sociology 101 teaches students to be open to different types of people and to learn how society works. This course offers vivid examples of different cultures and a mental image of how each society differs. Students who are planning on taking this course must be up for a challenge and be open to learning to understand others. This course takes a lot of reading, as does any other course. Also in this course there will be tests and routine essays handed out. Sociology 101 prepares students for the real world as it teaches students how each society functions. In learning how each society functions, students learn to adapt to life in the real world. Students taking this course will soon begin to look at those around them and find that it is quite difficult to call someone the same as yourself. Students taking this course learn to think and view the world from a completely different point of view. Students learn how other cultures around the world differ from ours, and learn to dive deep into a culture and explore all that the culture has to offer. Sociology 101 is a great adventure that takes students soaring through time and across the planet learning about those all around us.
Check out some of the work I did during this class.
In Sociology we have regular essays. My favorite essay that I wrote in this class was titled "I am the sculptor and I am the clay." I really enjoyed writing this essay, and I received ten out of ten possible points on this essay. This essay allowed me to express how not everyone is perfect and never is going to be perfect. Society pushes images of what 'we need to be', and it hurts our society greatly. This paper allowed me to elaborate and show the extremities to which our society shapes us. It is also important for others to know what a major role they play in the lives of others. In children's lives especially, everyone around them is a major influence. I really enjoyed writing this essay, and I am very proud of my own words. I wish that I could spread my word and actually have it make a difference. I want so badly to make such a difference in the lives of so many people. I want to be remembered for all types of good that spread in others lives. On the day of my funeral I want everyone to wear a smile. Not because I am finally gone and out of their lives, but because they are only able to think of the ways that I have made them smile. This essay really did touch a large portion of my heart, and helped me to feel like I really can make a difference. In working at a day care I am able to see the influences made on children on a daily basis. Each and everyday a child learns something new, both positive and negative information. I like knowing that I am able to make a difference in the future by just touching the lives of children today. Molding these children to see how terrible the 'wrongs' can be, and just how bright the 'rights' can be.
