English 101 Portfolio
Short Term Goals:
My main short term goal is to finish this semester with at least a 3.0 GPA, preferably higher.
Other short term goals of mine include acquiring a car before the end of the semester, improving my current state of physical health, and finishing this e-portfolio.
I recently accomplished my short term goal of getting accepted to Winthrop Universtity.
Reflection
While coming up with my short term goals I had to really think about what steps I was trying to take to get to my long term goals. I came up with a glorified to-do list. I have not had any feedback yet on my goals. However, having achieved on of my goals a couple days before physically writing these out made my goals seem more attainable. I learned what I am really going after this semester and writing out my goals really put things in perspective for me.
Long Term Goals:
My main long term goal is to graduate college. Because I am trying to get the SC Teachers Student Loan, I will have to teach in South Carolina for at least three years before I am able to travel. However, after I complete my indentured servitude to my SC government, I would like to join the Peace Corps or just move to Europe to get a job as a translator or English teacher.
Reflection
I have been aware of my long term goals for quite a while. Obviously, just about everyone in college has the goal of graduating. I am not sure if teaching is something I really want to do for the rest of my life, but having the money for college and a bachelors degree in education will really help me out, so that is why it is one of my goals. It will take a long time and a lot of work to achieve, though. I know that after I finish college I have to travel to Europe. It has been a dream of mine for years. I am obsessed with European culture. I decided that joining the Peace Corps would be a good way to fulfill that dream while putting to use the teaching certificate which I plan on attaining. Writing these goals and reflecting on them has helped me to realize how the two goals relate. I now have a better idea of how much I want to achieve my goals and how I will go about the process.
