Alternative Break: China

Mission

Alternative Break: China challenges members to go outside of their comfort zone so that they can grow as individuals, scholars, citizens and eventually into leaders in the global society.  By teaching about culture and planning/leading fundraisers, each member is able to enhance their leadership skills.  The Alternative Break experience also allows people to feel part of a community as well as form lasting friendships with fellow UCSD students and people around the world, whom they might have not associated with otherwise.  In addition to the satisfaction of personal growth, they also have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others as well as see how their education or career pathway may help people in the future.  By being able to explore community service in another culture, members develop a deeper appreciation for cross-cultural understanding, and learn about global issues that exist today.  They will be able to experience the country and people in a way no tourist ever could.  Overall, participants gain a long lasting appreciation for community service, and a new awareness of the world around them.
