Community Service

Community Service

For my community service I have done many fun things and here are two of my favioret.
As a care giver I was responsible for the safety and happiness of my clients, and even though this was a paid position, I stepped out of the limitations of the job, and befriended my clients, visiting them, not only during work but after work, on holidays and weekends as well. I even convinced my husband to volunteer some of his time to do some of the more labor intensive jobs like chopping wood, or disposing of multiple bags of garbage that lay on a deck, attracting rates and causing me to have concerns for the wellbeing of my client. This made my client’s feel like I cared and made me feel like I was a friend. In the hospital I also visited many patients, on my off days and sometimes brought with me my dog Max. This pet therapy had a wonderful affect on my patients and brought back memories and happy times for many of the residence at the hospital.
My time at Eisenhower includes helping the teacher manage the classroom, disciplinary issues, and assisting in questions from the children. I was also involved in the assembly preparations and assisted Mrs. Madison with the after school math preparation program, were I tutored many of the students in the fundamentals of algebra. I also assisted Mrs. Madison with her data entry work, graded students work, and organized, and led a coordinated effort to display decorations with students for the classroom. Finally I also make lesion planes and lecture them to the class, giving me real life experience, of what it is like to teach a class.
In the end, all my community service has made me a better-rounded person, and has given me opportunities to meet great individuals that have impacted my life for only the better. The skills that I learned from the teachers at the schools in Everett and Marysville, will stay with me and better prepare me for a career in teaching. The hospital was helped me care, but also to let go, and know that no matter what happens great people will touch your heart and never let go.
